Induced
After-Death Commmunication

IADC Therapy is most effective for those whose loved one passed away at least 12 months prior to treatment.

In some rare cases, a person who experienced a loss between 6 and 12 months prior to treatment can have a successful IADC treatment.

If you have experienced your loss within the past 6 months, please wait to pursue IADC Therapy until more time has passed, and please seek other forms of treatment if necessary.

IADC Therapy begins with a free 25-minute screening to assess whether this therapy may be right for you. I only accept clients for whom a positive outcome is likely. It is important to know that IADC can be a somewhat demanding treatment requiring the client to set aside cognition while processing emotion, access and tolerate intense effects, and clear the mind of mental chatter.

If, upon participating in a screening call, I determine that you are an appropriate candidate for this treatment, I will then schedule two 90-minute appointments on two consecutive days or sign you up for one of our IADC intensive programs.

Continuing bonds with your loved one is a healthy and normal response to grief. Many people grieving experience after-death communications (ADC) from their loved ones in the form of signs, dreams, visualizations, etc.   After-Death Communication (ADC) refers to the spontaneous experience of perceiving the presence of a deceased loved one. ADCs are a frequently reported and naturally occurring phenomenon. This helps people feel more connected to their loved one and find it comforting.

Induced After Death Communication (IADC) was developed by Dr. Allan L. Botkin, Psy.D in 1995. IADC is a variation of EMDR and focuses on the core sadness of the loss. IADC is a two-session protocol, each session lasting about 90 minutes over the course of two consecutive days.

It is reported that approximately 70% of clients who go through this treatment will experience after-death communication and feel a strong connection with their deceased loved one. An ADC is not guaranteed to occur, and several factors may impact someone from not having an ADC. Although a client may not achieve an ADC, clients report a reduction in their sadness associated with the loss of their loved one.

This treatment is not covered by insurance. To learn more, please get in touch with Kelly at 518-219-8625.

The fee for IADC Therapy is $245 per hour for the three-hour treatment ($735 total for the complete and comprehensive therapy).

The primary purpose of IADC Therapy is to address a client’s grief. Most clients (75%) experience After-Death Communication, but not all do, and I cannot guarantee you will have an ADC experience. However, the vast majority of clients, even those who do not experience ADC, report a significant reduction in their sadness as a result of their IADC treatment.

  • What does after-death communication mean?
The term After-Death Communication, or ADC, refers to the spontaneous experience of perceiving the presence of a deceased loved one. ADCs are a frequently-reported and naturally-occurring phenomenon. Studies indicate that up to 40 percent of adults have had ADC experiences; for widows that figure is as high as 70 to 80 percent; and 14 percent of adults report actually seeing or hearing the deceased in their ADC experiences (Rees, 2001; Dastson & Marwit, 1997; Silverman & Worden, 1993; Simon-Buller, et al., 1989). This treatment method is called Induced After-Death Communication as it induces the psychological state in which spontaneous ADCs can occur.
  • The person I am grieving passed away a long time ago, can I still participate?
Absolutely! There is no time limit to grief. However, the IADC technique has been found to be most effective one year after the person has died.
  • What if I don't believe in after-death communication or an afterlife?
Beliefs play no role (other than as mentioned above) in IADC Therapy. It doesn’t matter what clients believe beforehand, and it doesn’t matter what clients believe after an IADC experience. However, those who are open-minded to the possibility have a greater chance of experiencing after-death communication.
  • How will IADC help my grief?
IADC Therapy does not directly induce ADCs. Rather, it induces the psychological state of openness that allows the ADC to occur naturally. The feelings of deep sadness related to the death of your loved one are reported to be resolved. The IADC sessions can also help resolve your feelings of being disconnected from your loved one. A profound sense of peace is also regularly reported after the final session.
  • I feel at peace with my person's death and don't feel sad or consider myself grieving, but I would like to experience a connection with my loved one. Can I still attend?
    Absolutely!
  • Does this program guarantee I will have an after-death communication with the person I loved who is dead?
Currently, the stats show approximately 75% of participants who participate one year from their loved ones death have an after-death experience. Those who have gone through the process that did not have an ADC still found the process to be very cathartic and the eye movement therapy help to process more feelings around the person's death.
  • I am a medical professional and would like to experience this technique but I do not have anyone in my life who has died. Can I still participate?
This 3-day intensive is specifically for people who a grieving the loss of a loved one. We will be offering a specific training in the near future for therapists and medical professionals to attend.
  • What research has been done on this intervention?
A control group-design research study, Effects of Induced After-Death Communication on Grief, was conducted at the University of North Texas by Dr. Jan Holden et al. Participants who underwent IADC were shown to have benefited significantly over those who received conventional treatment. Click here to read this study in Grief Matters: The Australian Journal of Grief and Bereavement. A research study on the IADC Grief Questionnaire was conducted by Dr. Claudio Lalla in Italy. Click here to read the results of Dr. Lalla’s study. And a new study by Dr. Tom Nehmy has been approved to begin at the University of Adelaide in Australia. Click here to learn more about Dr. Nehmy’s study.
  • What can block my chances of having an ADC?
Sadness prevents an ADC from occurring naturally. The vast majority of IADC Therapy consists of reducing sadness. The remainder involves inducing a state of receptivity, which is characterized by a state of complete openness to anything that might happen. Of the 25 to 30 percent of people who do not experience an ADC, the vast majority of these are people who cannot quiet their minds. People who meditate are easier to induce, so it is useful to teach a brief mindfulness meditation they can practice before their IADC appointments. There are also certain medications that reduce the likelihood of experiencing an IADC. This will be discussed in further detail during your intake call.
